BODYGUARD TRAINING MANUAL VIP - CLOSE PROTECTION PURPOSE OF THIS UNIT STANDARD The purpose of this unit standard is to enable relevant personnel who are tasked with the protection of designated person(s) (principal), to provide protection to such person(s) (principal) against harmful threats whilst in transit, on foot or at a venue. Benefit for society of this unit standard is that the person who completes this, will contribute to safety in society. Person credited with this unit will be able to: • • • •

Ascertain the principals brief and risk profile Plan the transit/foot/venue protection operation of a principal. Protect a principal during transit/foot/venue movement. Terminate and review the protection operation. LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

The following knowledge, skills, attitude and/or equivalent: • • • • • • •

A knowledge, comprehension and application of language and mathematical skills. Competently drive a vehicle. Understand the relevant legislation required for the lawful possession and use of relevant firearms. Handle relevant firearm safely. Operate, use and maintain relevant firearm. Shoot relevant firearm competently. Use of firearms in tactical duty related situations. UNIT STANDARD RANGE

The unit standard applies to the protection of designated persons against harmful threats, whether physical or electronic, direct and indirect.
